Can you afford not to use HP SitePrint? Tom Troceen August 26, 2024

We recently heard back from a client that decided not to use Redman Robotics for their project, and opted to use traditional layout methods. This was a pretty straightforward layout, however, it required a high level of accuracy.

We quoted the job for just under $10,000 which included print fees, BIM prep, and travel. When we heard back from the client about their job, it sounded like the layout went well, but then we started to walk through some of the issues and costs associated with traditional layout. For one, since chalk lines don’t last forever, as they were laying out the partitions, they noticed that a stub-up was outside of a wall, and had to rush to get it corrected. With a robotic layout, the ink can last over 6 months, which brings these issues to light with plenty of time to resolve. Additionally, one of the cinder block walls was 2 inches off, and had to be removed, patched and rebuilt. The wall rework alone was about $2,200.

In regard to the traditional layout cost, it took 4 highly skilled workers two weeks to get the job done. Our quote allotted for 1.5 days of robotic layout with a single operator. Not only would this have saved 8 full work days, but they could have avoided the rework with a more precise layout. They estimated that they spent $7,000 on labor, plus $2,200 on the rework.

If you’re following along with the math, you might assume they came out ahead. The catch is, they only laid out the track lines. If they had gone with robotic layout, we could have also printed their MEPF layouts as well. Each subcontractor is adding layout into their quotes, and spending the first few days on the job to get it done. These other subs are probably adding $2,000 each for their layouts, which quickly makes the robotic layout well worth the investment. With HP SitePrint and Redman Robotics, you can take layout off of the critical path, and trim weeks off of your schedule. In a business where time is money, let us save you on both.

Another client of ours contacted us through our website asking for a quote. At first, they assumed this technology would be cost prohibitive, and simply had a few questions. As soon as they saw our quote, it was a quick “Let’s do this.”

In this case, our client was in an area where skilled labor was hard to find. Beyond that, neighboring markets are booming, and they would need to pay a premium to get anyone onsite. That’s where Redman Robotics comes in. Since we provide HP SitePrint nationwide as a service, there’s no big upfront cost, learning curve, or trial & error. We simply show up ready to print, and leave when the job is done. As an added bonus, when our client posted pictures of the robot to their social media; past clients, friends & colleagues instantly lit up their inbox with questions and praise.

Whether you’re looking to buy your own HP SitePrint or hiring Redman Robotics to do it for you, you still need to know how much it costs.

To purchase your own robot, you’re looking to pay $80-90K for the robot, total station, accessories, and training. Beyond that, you also have a per square foot licensing fee for every print job.

If you would prefer us to print your next layout for you, we quote based on square footage, travel expenses, operator time, and CAD preparation. If you would like a quote, simply send us your building plans, and we will respond within 24 hours.
